Syria Denounces US Airstrikes in Deir al-Zawr, Calls for End to Illegitimate Presence

Syria has strongly denounced recent airstrikes carried out by US occupation forces in the eastern province of Deir al-Zawr, decrying them as acts of aggression that violate international law and humanitarian principles.

In a statement issued by Syria's Foreign Ministry on Tuesday, the country criticized the US for positioning itself as the world's policeman under unjustifiable pretexts. The ministry called for an immediate end to the US presence on Syrian soil and its support for terrorist organizations like Daesh.

Syria urged the global community to take action against US aggression in West Asia and pledged to pursue justice through international law against the perpetrators.

The airstrikes, according to a Syrian military source, targeted villages, towns, and military sites, resulting in casualties and significant material damage. Seven soldiers and one civilian were reported killed, with 19 soldiers and 13 civilians wounded.

Despite claims by the US of conducting airstrikes to combat terrorism, Damascus has consistently appealed to the United Nations to halt these attacks and to end the US military presence in Syria.

Syria has long accused Israel, along with its Western and regional allies, of supporting terrorist groups to destabilize the country since the onset of foreign-backed militancy in 2011.

The US military maintains a presence in northeastern Syria, purportedly to safeguard oilfields from falling into the hands of Daesh. However, Damascus contends that this deployment is aimed at exploiting Syria's abundant resources rather than combating terrorism.
